2015 Recap

WOV: Love Yourself Party

On May 16th we had our first "love yourself" party!  It was a well rounded event that featured multiple cosmetologists and a natural hairstylist.  Our ladies were given numerous tips on hair and beauty, taking care of the skin they're in and the hair God's given them.  A great time was had all around!

Vision Board Party!

March's Women of Valor social event was vision boards and all of the women enjoyed it!  We gathered around tables and grabbed our scissors, glue and forms of media and went to designing our boards.  Short-term goals, long-term goals, desires and wants were clipped and pasted on our boards to remind us and keep us on track towards achieving them.



 





We all vowed to display our boards in a place where we can see them on a regular basis and we have a check-in date for the next quarter to see where we are at achieving the things we put on our boards.  We might even do a spotlight interview with a member and see where she is on her journey!  Stay tuned for that.

WOV Serves the Community

On Saturday, April 18, 2015 Women of Valor participated in their first of many community service events at the Houston Food Bank.  We were there bright and early, ready to give back to the city we love.  We pride ourselves on being philanthropic women so when the opportunity arose for us to give back at the Houston Food Bank we jumped on it.  We plan on doing a volunteer event each quarter and if you're interested in joining us next time drop a line in the comment section and let us know!

Women of Valor: Kickoff Meeting

Last Saturday was our kickoff meeting for the Women of Valor social club and I'd have to say it was quite successful.  There was laughter, tears, prayer, and bonding amongst the group of women, and that was before we even started talking about our monthly reading!




For the month of January we focused on the first ten keys in Sophia Nelson's 'The Woman Code: 20 Powerful Keys to Unlock Your Life':

  • Code 1 - Know Your Value
  • Code 2 - Make Peace with Your Past
  • Code 3 - Teach People How to Treat You
  • Code 4 - Live Authentically
  • Code 5 - Be Accountable for Your Life
  • Code 6 - Guard Your Heart
  • Code 7 - Be Resilient
  • Code 8 - Age Gracefully
  • Code 9 - Do Not Gossip
  • Code 10 - Apologize Quickly

 
So many great opinions and points were made by various women on each code and a lot was learned, definitely by me. We're actually going to stay in the same book for February's reading and cover the last ten keys so if you haven't had the chance to pick up the book yet you can get it at quite a few retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and even Walmart!

We also discussed the activity calendar and upcoming events, especially AIDS Walk Houston which is coming up in just a few short months.  Be sure to visit this post if you have any questions, and feel free to contact Tavaria or Rosa if you have any questions.  I feel like we're off to a great start and I can't wait to see how God is going to use us this year!

AIDS Walk Houston 2015

"I walk for you.  You walk for me.  We walk for life."


Each year over 1,200 people are newly infected with HIV in the Houston community.  Your support helps local AIDS Service Organizations provide programs and life-saving services to thousands of Houstonians impacted by HIV/AIDS.


 
The Women of Valor are participating in the 2015 AIDS Walk Houston.  It's a 5k to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS research and we'd like you to join our team!

Registration starts at 12PM
